Dr. Hans J. Reiter has been the Ministerial Director and Deputy Minister at the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and Arts since July 6, 2021.

Born in Bern (Switzerland) on November 12, 1960, he received his secondary degree in Saarbrücken and went on to study law at the University of Mannheim from 1979 to 1984. After passing his first and second state law examinations, he continued in Mannheim until receiving his doctorate in 1991. From 1992 to 1996, he worked as an advisor and finally as deputy head of department at the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, then as a research assistant to the Enquete Commission on Broadcasting Reorganization for the Baden-Württemberg State Parliament and from 1997 to 2007 at the State Ministry in the areas of broadcasting, media and film, beginning in 2000 as the head of department.

After returning to the Ministry of Science, he first headed the Student Services (Studierendenwerk) unit, then the Unit for the Universities of Applied Sciences. Beginning in March 2017, he became head of the department for finance, personnel, construction, IT and organization at the Ministry before becoming Deputy Minister.
